At the 18th Global Forum for Food and Agriculture, held during Green Week 2026, approximately 80 international agriculture ministers and high-ranking representatives of international organizations will discuss the topic of water and food security.
The Global Forum for Food and Agriculture (GFFA), will take place in Berlin from January 14 to 17, 2026, under the motto “Water. Harvest. Our Future.”
As a leading international conference on key future issues facing the global agricultural and food sector, the GFFA celebrates the 18th time the event has been held concurrently with Green Week in Berlin.
The participating agriculture ministers, together with representatives from international organizations, will address the issue of water.
It has since been established globally that water was essential for life, food, and the economy. However, more than two billion people worldwide suffer from water stress – exacerbated by climate change, overuse, and pollution.
Another venture particularly affected by the lack of water is Agriculture which needs sufficient water to produce food and ensure global food security.
As the largest user of water, agriculture has significant leverage to create solutions for efficient water use. Strengthening water resilience was one of the major challenges of our time, and agriculture plays a key role – because without water, there is no food.
The international community has already placed water at the heart of the global agenda with the 2023 UN Water Conference, and Germany intend to consistently pursue this path and strengthen the voice of agriculture in the run-up to the 2026 UN Water Conference, says the country’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs
“By actively involving the concerns and experiences of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, and aquaculture, we are pooling resources and developing sustainable solutions.”
Furthermore, the Austrian Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMLEH), aims to use the Global Water Forum (GFFA) as an international platform to raise international awareness of the topic of “Water and Food Security” and to contribute to sustainably strengthening water resilience worldwide.
The GFFA 2026 will focus on, among other things, the following four aspects, namely: Using water sustainably, Strengthening the blue bioeconomy, Resolving competing water uses constructively and Strengthening international water governance.
The GFFA is organized by the BMLEH as well as a number of well-known international organizations and actors such as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the African Union (AU) and the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
