Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin is releasing the new podcast ‘Birth at Charité’, which focuses on the topics of pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. The podcast is aimed at expectant and new parents as well as anyone who is interested in and enthusiastic about obstetrics. In each episode, doctors and midwives share their expertise and experiences. The format was created in close collaboration between the Department of Obstetrics and Charité’s Corporate Communications division.
The podcast not only offers in-depth medical knowledge, but also insights into the processes of one of Germany’s leading maternity clinics. The topics range from pregnancy and birth to important aspects of the postpartum period. “Birth is a wonderful moment. With our podcast, we want to provide parents-to-be with the best possible information, advice and support during pregnancy and birth,” explains Prof Dr Wolfgang Henrich, Director of the Department of Obstetrics at Charité.
The Department of Obstetrics is the largest obstetrics centre in Germany and one of the most renowned. Every year, more than 5,000 children are born at the Charité. In addition to providing family-oriented care for many pregnant women with uncomplicated births and courses, the clinic also has special expertise as a perinatal centre in the treatment of high-risk and multiple pregnancies.
‘We see the podcast as an opportunity to make Charité’s wide-ranging expertise in obstetrics accessible to a broad audience,’ says Markus Heggen, Acting Head of Corporate Communications at Charité. “We want to support people in this special phase of their lives by providing specialist knowledge in an understandable form and with a great deal of empathy. In this way, we are also participating in high-quality digital healthcare communication in Germany in order to counteract dubious information and provide guidance.”
The important role of midwives is also discussed in the podcast. Among others, midwife Julia Blumenstein and attending midwife Jamila Armand-Delille talk about their roles in obstetrics. The format is hosted by Dr Paul Rostin from Charité’s Department of Obstetrics. He is in daily contact with expectant parents and knows exactly what questions and topics they are concerned about.
The content of the ten episodes is relevant for all parents-to-be and not just those who have decided to give birth at the Charité. In the opening episode, everything revolves around the topic of ‘imperial birth’. Prof Henrich describes how such a caesarean section is performed and what makes the Caesarean birth at the Charité so special.
The podcast is now available on all common platforms. New episodes will be released every seven days.
