Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, as the general tenant, today officially received the key for an apartment building with 76 residential units. The flats in the district of Pankow are fully equipped and intended as accommodation, especially for international nursing staff. The aim is to provide new staff members with adequate living space and thus at the same time contribute to attracting and securing skilled workers. The eight-storey building was handed over by Berlinovo and meets the sustainability requirements of the Charité with its high quality and energy standards.

The Charité is intensifying its efforts to recruit international nursing staff and established its own staff unit for this purpose at the beginning of the year. The aim is to recruit and integrate international health professionals, especially from Albania, Mexico, the Philippines, Tunisia, Brazil, Colombia and Turkey. The premise here is not to recruit nursing staff from countries that need workers themselves. Currently, around 700 people from so-called third countries are employed at the Charité.

Carla Eysel, Board Member for Human Resources and Nursing, emphasises: “Charité is an attractive employer and has a very international workforce with more than 21,550 employees and 121 nationalities. For some years now, Charité has been intensively involved in recruiting foreign nursing staff. For example, we take care of language courses as well as professional recognition and now increasingly also suitable housing options.” She adds: “A good housing offer is an additional incentive for potential skilled workers, and so with this flat house we are also increasing the attractiveness of the nursing profession. After all, anyone who is interested in a medical profession at the Charité can expect extremely good conditions in the health city of Berlin, and this now also includes affordable housing. My thanks go to everyone who has supported this project and I wish all the residents a good future in their new home.”
