The newly-accredited Liberian Ambassador to Federal Republic of Germany, Mrs Ethel Davis today presented her Letters of Credence to President Christian Wulff at Castle Bellevue.
Ambassador Mrs Davis and her entourage from the Liberian Embassy in Berlin were welcomed at the forecourt of the Castle by officials of the Office of the President, protocol officers from the Foreign Ministry and a ceremonial guard formed by a detachment of the German Armed Forces.
The Ambassador was ushered into the ceremonial hall of the Castle where she signed the official Guest Book after which she went straight to meet with the president.
President Wulff and Ambassador Mrs Davis retired for discussions believed to centre on bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Liberia, regional as well as international issues.
Speaking at a reception held in her honour later, Ambassador Mrs Davis recalled what she described as the cordial relations that has historically subsisted between the Republic of Liberia and the Federal Republic of Germany.
The ambassador took the opportunity on behalf of Her Excellency President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the people of Liberia and thanked the government and people of Germany for the “enourmous assistance rendered to Liberia”.
The Federal Republic of Germany has also provided assistance for the training of the police and has cancelled Liberia`s bilateral debt to the tune of 200 million dollars and has also played a strong and facilitating role in having Liberia`s international debt to the tune of 400 million dollars canceled.
Germany, she said has been an historical contributor to the development of Liberia.
Ambassador Davis hopes the warm and cordial relations between the two countries will grow in the years ahead and invited German investors to invest in “a democratic and peaceful Liberia.
