Opinion: JB Danquah Is Still on My Mind By Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., PhD

Wednesday night’s killing of Mr. Ahmed Hussein-Suale left me a little wistful about the promise given the general public by police investigators that they intended to leave no stone unturned in their search for the wicked perpetrators of such a heinous crime. As of this writing, the Ghanaian media were reporting that Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, the New Patriotic Party’s Member of Parliament for Assin-Central, in the Central Region, was being invited by police investigators for questioning as a person of interest, perhaps primarily because the media mogul, at least by local standards, had been having a running battle with Mr. Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger-Eye PI, in the wake of the filmic documentary titled “Number 12,” an exposé of rank corruption at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) that led to the resignation of the GFA’s President, Mr. Kwasi Nyantakyi, last year, and FIFA’s dissolution of the GFA, upon the recommendation of the Government of Ghana.

Personally, I cannot trust assurances given by the police brass that they intend to get to the bottom of the Mafia-style execution of Mr. Hussein-Suale, when more than two years later, the GPS has yet to get to the bottom vis-à-vis the criminal masterminds behind the brutal assassination of Mr. JB Danquah-Adu, grandson of the legendary Dr. JB Danquah, at the time of the former’s very violent death the substantive Member of Parliament for Akyem-Abuakwa-North, in the Eastern Region, the traditional electoral stronghold of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who also happens to have been cousins with the slain man. In the Danquah-Adu case, we must significantly highlight the fact that the Chief Investigator initially assigned to the case, Commissioner of Police (COP), Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, perhaps Ghana’s finest, foremost and most erudite forensics scientist, was almost immediately removed from the case by the extant Mahama-appointed Inspector-General of the GPS or IGP, Mr. John Kudalor.

Dr. Akuffo-Dampare would also be promptly demoted from his post of Greater-Accra Regional Commander of the Ghana Police Service to Rector of a Police Academy Training College located at Winneba, in the Central Region. Now, before the Ghana Police Service’s personnel delve deeper into the apparent mystery surrounding the cold-calculated murder of Mr. Danquah-Adu, we need to hear from former IGP Kudalor, regarding the fact of who or what motivated his highly suspicious removal of COP Akuffo-Dampare from the Danquah-Adu case. Once the latter question has been credibly answered, Ghanaians could then be rest assured of what to make of the promise given by police investigators to rigorously get to the bottom of the criminal masterminds behind the murder of Mr. Hussein-Suale.

What also makes the Danquah-Adu case even more suspicious is the fact that the Chief Investigator of the case was immediately taken off the case and reassigned shortly after his sterling sleuthing or investigative footwork led to the arrest and confession of the criminal suspects who, according to widespread and uncontroverted media reports, citing reliable police investigative sources, claimed to have been contracted and paid to assassinate Mr. Danquah-Adu. We would also learn, just about the same time, that at least one of the masterminds behind the multiple stabbing death of Mr. Danquah-Adu worked in close proximity with then-President John Dramani Mahama. Now, I don’t know what all the preceding means, but I strongly suspect it points to a forensically significant “smoking-gun” that may very well get us closer to finding a definitive answer to the Danquah-Adu Murder Conundrum.

The Hussein-Suale Case, on the other hand, may very well present Mr. Ohene Agyapong with the toughest battle of his life yet, if, he is, indeed, on record as having ordered the Mafia-style slain man to not only be barred from entering the premises of the Agyapong-owned Oman-FM Radio Station, but even “Beat the hell out of him,” because Mr. Hussein-Suale was suspected to be capable of bugging the premises with “secret cameras.” I wonder what goes on in the Kencity’s Madina edifice that Mr. Agyapong was afraid of it becoming public, if Mr. Hussein-Suale was not promptly stopped from frequenting the place, as my wife quipped to me while drafting this column. Of course, I also fully recognize the fact that it is too early for anybody – critic or admirer – to draw any meaningful conclusions one way or another, regarding the fact of whether the Oman-FM Radio proprietor has anything to do with the brutal Wednesday night slaying of the former Tiger-Eye operative.
