The 7th edition of the travel expo Pearl of Africa Travel Expo ( POATE ) closed on Friday, April 29,2023 with a final press conference with the CEO of Uganda Tourism Board Lilly Ajarova.
The business to business event took place at the Commonwealth Resort Munyonyo from April 26 – 29, 2023 followed by a consumer day on April 30, 2023.
The CEO Ajarova pointed out that they are happy with the numbers. More than 90 out of 100 invited buyers attended the show and the target of 300 exhibitors was met.
“The key strategy is engagement with media.” Said Ajarova
They are happy to welcome those from outside Uganda to explore the “Pearl of Africa”.
Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) uses tourism expos like the World Travel Market in London – UK , ITB in Berlin – Germany, regional ones like Magical Kenya in Nairobi and other International events.
Moreover it is the goal of UTB to position themselves as well for business tourism as a Meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibitions ( MICE ) destination.
Before the COVID,Uganda was among the top six MICE destination but their target now is tobe among the top five MICE destination in Africa.
