To My Uncle Tarkwa Atta – A Tribute By Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., Ph.D.

It is your hour
of destiny,
your perpetual plunge
into eternity…
your life
has circled back
into itself,
your life
has come full-cycle:
from preexistence
into existence
and post-existence,
this is the entire truth
of life,
the fullest extent
of life
as it is lived
and ought to
be lived –
alas,
death arrived in
broad daylight,
as always,
and gently rapped
on your door;
there was nothing
either mysterious
or untimely
about the same…
yes,
death arrived
in broad daylight
and gently rapped
on your door:
it was simply
your reluctant schedule
that made it all seem
mysterious
and
untimely
and tragic…
for,
it is the finality
of death
that unites
our humanity,
and this is no
painful
observation
to make,
it is the simple truth
and essence
of our lives,
even as
the sole
Prince-of-Peace
is death
and must be
reckoned
as such –
ours,
it seems,
is simply
to make waves,
huff and puff
like little boys
and girls,
differentiate,
alienate
and partially
endear…
alas,
in the end,
it is God
who sets
all things
aright and
at peace –
a good thing
ought to be kept
beyond clan,
kinship
and
tribe;
a good thing
must be kept
within the great
family of
humankind,
even as present
pain
and
sorrow
are evenly shared
by all,
with all,
amongst all…
that inevitable moment
of silent meditation
is now;
your rendezvous
with destiny
ought to be our
solemn
reaffirmation
with eternity –
Tarkwa-Atta Fofie,
let your journey home
be peaceful
and easy,
avid prince-of-peace
aspirant,
let it be
full of
pleasant memories
and peaceful dreams;
let Nananom
welcome you
at the great gate
with open,
forgiving and
loving arms…
Yohanne Nikanika
do rest in
in prayerful peace,
do rest in eternal peace,
for have been healed
and thoroughly cured
of your
morbid fear
of death…
