Akufo-Addo does not believe in the Republic of Ghana. Akufo-Addo see Ghana as a vehicle to sustain himself in power. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo believes in Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

When the political history of Ghana comes to be written, Akufo-Addo would be remembered; not with fond memories, but in bad taste, unfortunately. Even by some members of the New Patriotic Party. To hell with history, Akufo-Addo would say; power, is what counts for Akufo-Addo.

Thus Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo calls himself “President of the Republic” (and not President of the Republic of Ghana). When a Head of State calls himself “President of the Republic” what does that mean? The question is, President of the Republic of what?

And therefore, Akufo-Addo does not actually care whether Ghana burns or not. What matters most to Akufo-Addo is power. Cling on to power no matter how many Ghanaian citizens are gunned down by his vigilante group that he infiltrated into the regular army.

The people of the West African country are generally a very peaceful people; and Akufo-Addo is taking advantage of their patience and decorum to brutalise the country’s independent institutions for his parochial interest. But, Ghanaians are a very resilient people. Ghanaians have patience, lots of patience.

Akufo-Addo should do well not to underestimate the patience and resilience of the people of Ghana. The use of brutal military and police force did not cow them into submission in the past and it will not cow them into submission today.

The year 2021 would be very crucial for Ghana, the peaceful West African country.

It is important that Ghana enters 2021 without losing another Ghanaian citizen. The year 2020 has been a terrible year for the people of Ghana. Talk about the cold-blooded killing of innocent people at Techiman South and elsewhere in the country. The tension generated by the perceived attempt to subvert the will of the electorate.

The young Ghanaians who lost their lives during the elections in 2020 would be remembered when the history of Ghana’s democratic dispensation comes to be written. Akufo-Addo’s style of presidency will also be highlighted. Akufo-Addo’s persistent silence when Ghanaians are murdered by members of his vigilante groups in military and police uniforms will be remembered.

It will be said that Akufo-Addo’s presidency was different from the presidential styles of Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, John Evans Atta Mills, and John Dramani Mahama.

It will be said that during Akufo-Addo’s presidency, state institutions of Ghana were robbed of their independence as part of a grand design by Akufo-Addo to cling on to power in perpetuity. It will be said that this style of leadership by Akufo-Addo is at variance with the dictates of democratic governance. It is at variance with the Danquah, Busia and Dombo traditions of the New Patriotic Party.
