The 16th annual Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL 2026) will take place from 17 to 23 August 2026 under the theme “Design Beyond Borders,” debuting for the first time at the prestigious venue 8 Northumberland Avenue.
This milestone anniversary edition marks Europe’s largest annual fashion event celebrating African culture and premium talent.
Since its inception in 2011, AFWL has showcased more than 3,000 designers and creatives from Africa and the diaspora, cementing its position as one of the world’s leading catwalk and exhibition platforms for African fashion. AFWL2026 builds on that legacy by creating new opportunities for designers, entrepreneurs and creatives to connect with consumers, industry leaders and international markets.
The 2026 theme, “Design Beyond Borders “, reflects AFWL’s commitment to championing African creativity on the global stage while reinforcing London’s role as a hub for cultural exchange, innovation and creative enterprise.
Event Highlights & New Features
Shop The Runway Retail Platform: A brand-new direct-purchase showroom model allowing attendees to buy designer pieces right after they debut.
British Council Partnership: A major collaborative programme hosting early-career talent from the British Council’s Creative DNA accelerator across multiple African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, and Zimbabwe.
DJ Masterclass & Performances: A creative industry kick-off featuring a specialized music masterclass alongside headline live performances by global stars Cuppy and Seyi Shay.
Industry Learning Seminars: Educational panelling covering emerging tech in apparel, sustainable fashion production, artificial intelligence, and creative retail growth.
Featured Designers
The runway line-up at this year’s fashion extravaganza includes a wide blend of African heritage textiles and contemporary premium couture. Notable brands taking the runway include Soboye, Mary Martin London, David Wej Lagos, Adire Oodua, Realms, Simeogieme, and AjiBèkè.
