Opinion: I Told You Kwabena Donkor and Mahama Were Poisonous for Ghana – By Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., Ph.D.

Dr. Kwabena Donkor

Whichever British university awarded the National Democratic Congress’ Member of Parliament for Pru-East Constituency, in the Brong-Ahafo Region, his doctorate in Business Administration or Business Management, did Dr. Kwabena Donkor a great disservice; and that disservice has redounded to the incredible and pernicious scamming of the Ghanaian taxpayer and, indeed, the Ghanaian citizenry at large. And all this, in an unprecedented executive heist that may well have set back the salutary development of the country for at least a generation (See “I Personally Didn’t Check AMERI’s Background – Former Energy Minister Kwabena Donkor” MyJoyOnline.com / Modernghana.com 10/20/17).

We must also bear in mind the fact that our subject’s gross and abject lack of any qualification for the post of Power Minister was all too obvious from the get-go, as it were. But even more scandalous was the vacuous intellectual orientation of Dr. Donkor’s then-boss, to wit, then-President John Dramani Mahama, who asked for absolutely no comprehensive plan from his minion indicating that, indeed, Dr. Donkor was capable of cost-effectively bringing the Dumsor – or inadequate and erratic supply of electricity – crisis to a definitive halt. Indeed, if I had the energy and the requisite resources, I would have launched a blistering campaign for the prompt and immediate withdrawal of the former Power Minister’s doctorate by the institution that granted this thoroughgoing buffoon and clinical cretin the same.

It is also quite clear from his damning testimony, provided before the Parliamentary Committee on Mines and Energy, that the man who had the Power Ministry custom-tailored for him by former President Mahama, like his former boss, is a veritable fraud who deserves to be promptly indicted and rigorously prosecuted and put behind bars for the rest of his life. Indeed, the man who criminally facilitated the scamming of the Ghanaian taxpayer by a Dubai-based Arab-owned company to the humongous tune of some $ 510 million, all in the dubious name of emergency energy supply to the country, could not have made matters worse for himself and his former boss, when Dr. Donkor recently suggested that any attempt to thoroughly investigate the patent fraud that was the AMERI DEAL, and to have the latter promptly and effectively abrogated, ran the risk of “scaring away foreign investors.”

I can loudly and clearly hear the lambent-witted voice of my 12-year-old son and namesake huff under his breath and snap as follows: “What nerve!” What nerve, indeed, especially when one heart-wrenchingly recognizes the fact that the key operatives of the AMERI Group of Companies had simply sat duck, like some armchair businessmen, or rubber-ducks in a bathtub filled with water, and facilely farmed out virtually every aspect of their contractual deal with the crassly noetic and bumbling Mahama-led government of the National Democratic Congress to some “Brother Muslim” Turkey-based companies and ended up making a cool $ 200 million, or thereabouts, in decidedly unearned profits and, as New Yorkers are wont to say, “without breaking a single drop of sweat.”

We are even told that the parent company of these Gulf States Arab scam-artists had reassigned its interests in the deal to a nonexistent subsidiary that only came into existence and operation about two weeks – or to be precise, 13 days – after AMERI’s deal with the Mahama regime had been struck and the original deal was already in effect. Talk of postcolonial slavery! If, indeed, the preceding case scenario is not a classical, textbook example of fraud, dear reader, what else is it? I mean, I don’t see the Akufo-Addo Flagstaff House losing this case in any legitimately constituted court of law anywhere in the world except, of course, in Dubai or, perhaps, Turkey as well. It also becomes quite understandable that the vanguard operatives of the NDC should be kicking and screaming against the proposed establishment of the Office of the Independent Special Prosecutor.
