Opinion: How Dare You, Kevin Taylor! by Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., PhD

Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe Jnr., Ph.D.

I shall come back, shortly, to discuss Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia’s rather scandalous and characteristically paranoid accusation that the decision by President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to transfer Mr. Bryan Acheampong from the National Security Ministry to the Ministry of the Interior signals the dastardly intent of the leaders of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to rig the 2020 General Election. We thought it was the recompilation of the new National Biometric Voters’ Register (NBVR), scheduled to begin in April, which the monarchical General-Secretary of the country’s main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been telling the nation was intended to be used in rigging Election 2020 in favor of the ruling party. Anyway, for now, suffice it to observe that the political party of the airplane- and ambulance-scamming kleptocrats is its own worst enemy and not the Akufo-Addo-led New Patriotic Party.

In much the same manner, Mr. Kevin Ekow Baidoo Taylor, the notorious NDC-sympathizing – some even adamantly maintain that Mr. Taylor is a Mahama-salaried propagandist – social media commentator has remarkable stereotypical Fante entertainment value; but as a propagandistic force to reckon with on our national political scene, the Washington, DC-based broadcast journalist woefully lacks the requisite modicum of credibility to cavalierly presume to impugn the all-too-sound decision by the politically formidable and traditionally revered membership of the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference to vigorously campaign against any political party that criminally resorts to the use of vigilantes or violence in the leadup to the 2020 General Election.

It is also rather farcically fascinating that Mr. Taylor would base his criticism on the very apt and appropriate decision by President Akufo-Addo to implement only those recommendations of the Short Commission on the Ayawaso-West Wuogon Byelection Hostilities, primarily instigated by NDC politicians like Mr. Samuel George Nartey, the sometime Mahama Presidential Staffer, with which the President was in evidence-based agreement. At any rate, what needs to be underscored here, times without number, is the fact that legally and constitutionally speaking, Nana Akufo-Addo was never obligated to either concur with or implement each and every one of the recommendations proposed by the Short Commission. You see, the investigative panel which the President put together, that was headed by Justice Emile Short, the retired Appeals Court Jurist, was only meant to provide Nana Akufo-Addo with a well-informed appreciation of the details of the Ayawaso-West Wuogon hostilities, in order to constructively map out, going forward, how to perspicuously avoid such chaotic political minefields and pitfalls.

Thus, rather than vacuously and irrationally castigate Nana Akufo-Addo, a morally principled Kevin Taylor would have wisely and logically asked to be shown the documents and/or findings of any Commissions of Enquiry that were established by the John Dramani Mahama-led “Boot-for-Boot” government of the National Democratic Congress in the wake of the Talensi, Atiwa, Akwatia and Wassa-Amenfi byelection-related acts of violence. You see, Dear Reader, what Mr. Taylor and the rest of the roguish and thievish leadership of the National Democratic Congress have not learned as yet, but need to learn immediately and wisely so, is that one can simply not reap what and where one has not sown. Put into simple English, and into simple Arithmetic, one does not move from Point-C to Point-A, save the other way around. In short, let us first see to the implementation of the recommendations of the Talensi, Atiwa, Akwatia and the Wassa-Amenfi commissions of enquiry reports, if there are/were any, and then we could justifiably and expeditiously proceed to fully and blindly implement the recommendations of the Short Commission’s Report vis-à-vis the Ayawaso-West Wuogon Byelection Hostilities of January 2019.
