Opinion: Carlos Ahenkorah Must Be Disqualified from Reelection by Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., PhD

Carlos Ahenkorah

I have already called for his righteous removal as Parliamentary Candidate on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) for Election 2020, so I can only presently add my voice to those of the leaders of the OccupyGhana sociopolitical pressure. This should not be a debatable question, because Mr. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah, the former Deputy Trade and Industry Minister, has absolutely no meaningful message to impart to his Tema-West constituents besides continuing to spread the deadly Coronavirus, if he is allowed to continue holding himself off as the NPP Candidate for the aforementioned constituency and parliamentary seat. The compilation of a new National Biometric Voters’ Register (NBVR) that is tipped to heavily favor the ruling New Patriotic Party notwithstanding, the NPP cannot afford to frivol with any of the seats it presently has in its hold or sway. If he can contest the Tema-West parliamentary seat, Mr. Ahenkorah could very well become the electioneering campaign issue of his political opponents, and this issue could really bite.

What the strategists and campaign team members of the NPP ought to be doing right now, is to be deftly scheming to snatch more seats from the aisles of their most formidable political opponents, namely, the National Democratic Congress, whose leadership is desperately fighting to be returned to Jubilee House, come January 7, 2021. Divine Providence forbids! My profound apologies to Little Dramani. In short, unless Mr. Ahenkorah is promptly removed from his Tema-West parliamentary seat, the NPP could very well find itself defending the patently indefensible in the leadup to the 2020 parliamentary election, at least in the Tema-West Constituency, instead of propagating or advertising the relatively unprecedented achievements of the Akufo-Addo-led government. Which is the last thing that a successful administration like the present one can ill afford.

The upcoming election ought to be about the comparative on-the-job performances of Candidate Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Candidate John Dramani Mahama, and not a small political fry or gnat like the Tema-West NPP-MP. The preceding is only the second step in at least a three-step process, which is the imperative necessity for the former ministerial deputy who knowingly and criminally went around deliberately spreading the Coronavirus to face the logical music of disciplinary action. Indeed, I found it to be rather scandalous to hear Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Communications Minister, rather unwisely assert that being forced to resign his deputy minister’s portfolio was punishment enough for Mr. Ahenkorah, whose reckless conduct is believed to have possibly caused the death of at least one member of his electioneering campaign team and the COVID-19 infection of some two others.

We need to also promptly underscore the fact that this downright patent act of criminality on the part of Mr. Ahenkorah comes in the wake of the tragic felling of such New Patriotic Party giants as Mr. Kwadwo Owusu-Afriyie by the COVID-19 Pandemic. Not only did the foremost Akufo-Addo Kingmaker lose his life, “Sir John,” as Mr. Owusu-Afriyie was popularly known throughout the global Ghanaian community, was also reported to have lost his mother and a younger sister to the COVID-19 Pandemic the previous week. So, at the very worst, it is only on account of clinically proven insanity that Mr. Ahenkorah could be legally let off the hook. But, of course, this has yet to be forensically established by reputable medical experts and the police.
