Opinion: Bui Dam Woyome Has No Sense of Shame by Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe, Jr., PhD

As serious as the former Deputy Trade and Industry Minister’s crime of knowingly and selfishly spreading the Coronavirus may be, it is, nonetheless, inexcusably absurd for common political criminals and fraudsters like Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, the dynastic General-Secretary of Ghana’s main opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and some of his party headquarters charlatanic associates, to casually presume to reserve the moral authority to call for the arrest and prosecution of Mr. Carlos Kingsley Ahenkorah.

Indeed, were the prosecution of high crimes and misdemeanors promptly and rigidly carried out in the country on a daily basis, General Mosquito, as the NDC’s General-Secretary is popularly known, would still be serving time at the globally infamous Nsawam Medium-Security Prison, also known to yours truly as the Kwame Nkrumah College of Ideological Re-Education (KNCIR). And just which legitimately constituted respectable court of the land would be poised to prosecute the Tema-West’s New Patriotic Party Parliamentarian, knowing fully well that Mr. Asiedu-Nketia is one of the leading scofflaws among the vanguard ranks of the National Democratic Congress, who rode roughshod over the very perfect and most righteous Accra High Court decision, together with the founding-father of the National Democratic Congress, Chairman Jerry John Rawlings, to have the latter’s daughter, Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, literally forced down the throats of the good and law-abiding citizens of Klottey-Korle Constituency, in the Greater-Accra Region, as their nonmember and non-dues-paying Parliamentary Candidate for the National Democratic Congress, in the runup to the 2016 parliamentary election, and subsequently the bona fide Member of Parliament for the Klottey-Korle Constituency?

General Mosquito and Chairman Agbotui Rawlings would scale up the ladder to the Apex Court, twist a few arms, and get the travesty of a judgment against the honest-to-heaven Accra High Court judge and in favor of an opportunistic scofflaw Dr. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings. In other words, what credible legitimately constituted court of the land can be expected to bring justice down the pate of Mr. Ahenkorah? Or is Mr. Asiedu-Nketia implying here that there are two separate sets of prosecutorial justice in the country, namely, one for the kleptocratic key operatives of the National Democratic Congress, and another more effectively functioning one for the leaders and operatives of the ruling New Patriotic Party?

Then also, some of our regular readers may have so soon forgotten this, but it was the same Mr. Asiedu-Nketia who sat on the Board-of-Directors of the Bui Dam Authority (BDA) and sold the most expensive cement blocks to the same establishment for the construction of the second-largest hydroelectricity power plant in the country, while other suppliers were being paid roughly half the price of the cement blocks paid to a cement block-making factory owned by the former Rawlings-appointed Deputy Defense Minister. Not only was a clear case of a conflict of interest established in the case of Mr. Asiedu-Nketia, the man was also unpatriotically permitted to scam Ghanaian taxpayers with the callous and criminal complicity of then-President John Dramani Mahama, Vice-President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, late, the elder brother of Mr. Jabesh Amissah-Arthur, the Mahama-appointed Chairman of the Board of the Bui Dam Authority.

There are a myriad other scam, both political and nonpolitical, that Mr. Asiedu-Nketia has been mired up in, but which time does not permit us to fully and dispassionately delve into. At the very worst, I can foresee Mr. Ahenkorah’s being fined for his admittedly serious crime of knowingly and deliberately spreading the deadly Coronavirus disease in selfish furthering of his political ambitions and being sentenced to probation or good behavior by a legitimately constituted court of the land.
