The two are to discuss issues of mutual national and international interest, President Mills told journalists just before the two leaders began the closed-door meeting.
Citi News sources at the Castle say the two statesmen would be discussing issues concerning former President Kufuor’s ex-gratia, as well as issues relating to the seeming political polarization in the country and what roles the two could play in ensuring peace and tranquility.
President Mills expressed appreciation to Mr. John Agyekum Kufuor for honoring his invitation even at short notice.
“I want to welcome President Kufuor to his former office. I invited him so that we discuss matters of mutual, national and international interest, pure and simple. And I am happy that at very short notice, President Kufuor has accepted my invitation. And I am sure we will have some very fruitful discussions.”
Mr. Kufuor, who would not speak much on the discussion, told journalists “No remarks. I am all ears to hear what the President has to say. I am sure the two of us are joined by the national interest which must be managed with necessary decorum and circumspection. You don’t play it in public” he said.
On Thursday February 17, President Mills apologized to former President Kufuor, Chief Justice Georgina Wood and other statesmen and women he failed to acknowledge during the delivery of his third State of the Nation Address to Parliament.
His failure generated a firestorm, with the Minority Leader refusing to usher the President out of the House because of the slight to President Kufuor.
He has since apologized to the President.
