James Oppong-Boanuh, Inspector General of Police

The recent spate of indiscriminate killing of police men and women in Ghana is worrying.

Personnel of the Ghana police service work under very dire conditions under the current Inspector General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh. He is using the rank and file of the police service to intimidate the citizens of Ghana under the direction of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The security situation in Ghana today is very dangerous, to say the least. And, yet, the Inspector General of Police and the entire police leadership seems to lack any plan to address the issue.

Armed robbery is fast becoming a very lucrative business in Ghana today. The police under Oppong-Boanuh does not have any clue on how to address the threat facing ordinary Ghanaians.

In Akufo-Addo’s Ghana, it is very dangerous to move around the country on the highways by day or by night.

Deploy soldiers to tackle armed robbery instead of doing this

The spate of armed robbery in the country is rampant and seems to be occurring increasingly every single day. No wonder, it looks like members of the government – ministers and their deputies – have lost confidence in the police. They have turned to the army for personal protection.

It is only in Ghana that you see military officers holding files and following ministers of state on their errands for protection. This is a serious indictment on the police service.
