Ghana Election 2020: Asawase Community leaders commend Manaf Ibrahim

A former director of Political Affairs at the Office of the Vice President, Manaf Ibrahim has called for peace and unity within the Asawase Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Friday after the escalation of tension between his followers and the rival aspirant Alidu Seidu.

Alidu Seidu, who is the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at Asokore Mampong is seeking the NPP’s nomination for the parliamentary elections in December this year.

Supporters of the two rival candidates clashed at Aboabo Number Two. on Thursday evening when gunshots were reportedly fired leaving one person injured.

According to supporters of Manaf Ibrahim, Mr Seidu allegedly sent what they called ’hooligans’ to disrupt Manaf Ibrahim’s community engagement programme taking place last Thursday, August 27, 2020.

Manaf Ibrahim is embarking on community engagement to address the people on a number of issues.

“We started the announcement last week about community engagement at Aboabo Number Two and the venue was announced. Just today we heard that Hon Alidu Seidu’s team will also have a programme at the same venue,” says Mohammed Muntala, a member of Manaf Ibrahim’s faction.

On Friday, Manaf Ibrahim, one of the NPP aspirants in the Asawase constituency annouced his withdrawal from the contest to avoid further tension and bloodshed. He thanked his followers and the leadership of the community for the support. He called Alidu Seidu to apologise to the community and also desist from encouraging violent political activities.

Many people praised Manaf Ibrahim for taking the bold step for the sake of peace in the community. He promised to talk to his lawyers to withdraw the case from court.
