The German President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife Mrs Büdenbender, today welcomed King Frederik X of Denmark and Queen Mary of Denmark at Palace Bellevue with military honours.

The visit heralds the first to Germany since the beginning of their reign in January this year.

As the national anthems of the two countries were struck by the music corps of the German armed forces, the two leaders inspected a guard of honour mounted by detachment of the army, navy and air force of the Federal Armed Forces.

King Frederick X will attend the 25 year of the establishment of the Nordic Embassies in Berlin.

The Nordic countries are closely connected to Germany, but also to each other in an extraordinary way. One expression of this is the joint house of the Nordic embassies, the ‘Felleshus’, where the five diplomatic missions have been working under one roof for 25 years. Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden opened the Nordic Embassies in October 1999 under the motto ‘Each for themselves, yet together’.

During the talks, the Federal President praised the cross-border cooperation between Germany and Denmark. There are many opportunities for further joint projects on climate protection and the energy transition, emphasised Federal President Steinmeier during the talks.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier paid tribute to Germany’s close relations with Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. There are close political ties in the EU and NATO, as well as economic and cultural ties.
