Archbishop Duncan-Williams claimed that former President Gbagbo and his family were staunch Christian who had been his long time friends and that he used to visit and pray with them in Ivory Coast when Gbagbo was President.

He indicated that because of his relationship with the Gbagbo family, he was privy to certain vital information from the Gbagbo camp during the post-election conflict in that country.

He alleged that he was informed by a reliable source in Ivory Coast that before Gbagbo was arrested and handed over to Alassane Quattara at the Gulf Hotel in Abidjan, his wife Simone was raped by some military men in front of Mr. Gbagbo.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams, who is also the Chairman of the National Association of Charismatic and Christian Churches, made this revelation when addressing over 200 pastors and church leaders in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis as part of a one-day Church Leaders’ Conference at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in Takorakdi.

Archbishop Duncan Williams prophesized that events leading to and after the December 2012 general elections would be more dangerous than what happened in the 2008 general elections, adding “Pastors, we need to intercede for our nation Ghana.

“I saw a little of 1979 and 1981 and let’s pray that we dont experience any of such stories in the country again so there is the need for intensive prayers before the 2012 elections,” he said.
