Change in the management of the Mercedes-Benz Global Logistics Center in Germersheim

Mercedes Logistics centreOn January 1, 2016, Eckhart von Sass will hand over responsibility for the Mercedes-Benz Global Logistics Center to Klaus Ziemsky. After two years in charge of the central warehouse in Germersheim and the German and European logistics centers, and after nearly 30 years at Daimler AG, Eckhart von Sass will leave the company at his own request and by mutual agreement at the end of this year. Eckhart von Sass was made Head of the Global Logistics Center in October 2013. Under his leadership, agreements were concluded for the further development of the German logistics centers and the long-term safeguarding of parts supply for the German market. In this way, Eckhart von Sass made a major contribution towards putting the after-sales logistics of Mercedes-Benz into a competitive position for the future and towards creating good prospects for the site and its employees.

The future Head of the Mercedes-Benz Global Logistics Center in Germersheim, Klaus Ziemsky, is currently Head of the Logistic Supply Chain & Processes department. In addition to being responsible for the Global Logistics Center, Klaus Ziemsky will also be in charge of the German, European and regional logistics centers and the central warehouse in Tuscaloosa, USA, as of January 1, 2016.

After studying business administration, Klaus Ziemsky started his career at Daimler AG in 1992 as a consultant in the Internal Auditing department with focus on procurement, production and logistics. That was followed by a position as in-house consulting departmental head. In 1999, Ziemsky was made head of the logistics center in Nuremberg and subsequently of the logistics center in Hannover. As of 2003, he was in charge of the European and Regional Logistics Centers department. In 2007, he was appointed general manager of the customer assistance center in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Since 2011, Klaus Ziemsky has been responsible for the area of administrative logistics at the Global Logistics Center in Germersheim and for the regional logistics centers in Warsaw, Dubai und Singapore.

After the sale of a vehicle, the seamless supply of spare parts when needed is an elementary component of the customer service of Mercedes-Benz Global Service & Parts. The Global Logistics Center in Germersheim is the heart of the worldwide parts supply. The Global Logistics Center functions as a central warehouse and supplies the logistics centers all over the world with parts and accessories for cars and commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, smart and FUSO. On warehouse floor space of 1.2 million square meters, it has nearly half a million different parts available on call. The Global Logistics Center employs approximately 2,800 people.

About the logistics centers

The German logistics centers in Hannover, Cologne, Mainz, Nuremberg and Reutlingen are wholesale sites that take care of the rapid and smooth supply to the service centers in Germany and the bordering European countries of parts and accessories for cars and commercial vehicles from Mercedes-Benz, smart and FUSO. The logistics centers in Germany thus make an important contribution towards the success of the spare-parts business, because in addition to their geographic proximity to the retail organization, their high supply capability ensures customer satisfaction in the Mercedes-Benz and smart spare-parts business in Germany and Europe. In October 2015, an agreement was reached on job security until 2022 for the approximately 1,400 employees of the five German logistics centers.

In addition to the five German logistics centers, Global Service & Parts operates another seven logistics centers in Europe as well as logistics centers in Dubai and Singapore and a central warehouse in Tuscaloosa, USA, for the supply of service centers all over the world.
