Former President Jerry John Rawlings has supported calls on the police
to thoroughly investigate the killing of undercover investigator, Ahmed
Hussein-Suale.
“Ahmed-Suale’s killing cannot be allowed to end up like the others –
unresolved. We have to get to the bottom of these questionable
circumstances and their implications for our wider safety,” Flt. Lt.
Rawlings posted on his Twitter handle Saturday, January 19.
The former President also blames the undercover investigator’s untimely
death on comments by Assin Central Parliamentarian, Kennedy Agyapong,
who months ago encouraged violence against him after revealing his
identity live on NET2 TV which he [Agyapong] owns.
“We are here today largely because of one man recklessly unmasked an
investigative reporter and issued threats of violence,” he added.
Background
Hussein-Suale, a member of the private investigative firm, Tiger Eye PI,
owned by renowned undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, was gunned
down Wednesday night at Madina, in Accra, while on his way to the
hospital to see his ailing child.
He was hit twice at the chest and once in the neck killing him instantly.
Funeral rights were performed in line with Islamic customs before his
remains were laid to rest Friday, January 19 at the Madina cemetery.
Following the murder of the private investigator, there is mounting
pressure on the police to question politician, Kennedy Agyapong who
months ago called deceased to be beaten.
Mr. Hussein-Suale and colleagues produced the #Number12 documentary
which exposed corruption in Ghana football in mid-2018 and resulted in
the resignation of GFA President, Kwasi Nyantakyi.
